Hello Southern Section Members,
I would like to personally thank each of you for your membership and support. As a group, Southern Section is very engaging and energizing! Each member is integral to the section. We are each individuals, from very different work places, areas and communities working towards a common goal, meeting the needs of our students and their families. The engagement is very challenging and fulfilling. Southern Section is the largest section in the state; our membership encompasses Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. We are rich with diversity.
Our newly elected Board of Directors for 2017-2019 took office on July 1, 2017. As the section President, I would like to welcome Marci McLean, our President Elect. I look forward to working closely with her and our new Southern Section Board as we move forward with the business of CSNO Southern Section. For your information, we are a 100% volunteer board. Thank you to our elected and our appointed board members who have accepted the invitation and embraced the opportunity to work together.
Many thanks especially to Yolanda Lasmarias, our Past President, for her leadership. Thank you also to our past board members for all of their hard work, dedication and collaboration. Our board is essential to our mission, as we optimize student health and enhance learning. Every board member is an integral part of our team. We are looking forward to a productive term!
Congratulations to our own Pam Kahn, President Elect of CSNO State! She is a member of Southern Section. As a section, we are very proud of her stepping into her role as CSNO State President Elect 2017-2019. Congratulations go out to Sheri Coburn as well, our CSNO State President 2017-2019. Many thanks as well to Monika Kaytal in our CSNO office; she is a fantastic and essential support for us.
Education has moved forward rapidly in the last few years; stock epinephrine, medication guidelines, changes in vision screening, immunizations-removal of PBE, implementation of medical exemptions, grade spans, and Tdap. Diastat is now considered a medication, like all others. There is no longer a separate Education Code for Diastat. There are too many changes to mention. These are significant shifts, with them comes the need to stay informed and to receive proper training; I encourage you to network and seek knowledge.
I look forward to a busy year. Our 2017 fall conference will be held on October 14th, please put the date on your calendar. This is a great learning and networking opportunity. You cannot learn from an article what you learn at a conference, the conference information is much broader. Put the time aside, if at all possible, and join us! The 2018 State conference is in Riverside, at the Historic Mission Inn, February 8-11th. Put these dates on your calendar as well. This is an awesome learning experience. Last year there were over 500 school nurses at the state conference Monterey. Let’s top that number in Riverside, plan to attend!
There is currently a message from Sheri Coburn, CSNO State President asking for volunteers for strategic planning efforts 2018-2019. Please read her information on CSNO.org and if you are interested, please email her at sheri.coburn@csno.org. Strongly consider the opportunity to give input at this level. It is an energizing, enjoyable and fulfilling process. The networking that comes out of work at the state level is amazing! Move your practice forward, from good, to better, to best. Aim for mastery.
I thank each and every one of you for your membership and loyalty to CSNO. Our organization would not be strong without you, thank you for being a member of Southern Section! I look forward to seeing you at the fall Southern Section conference!
The very best wishes,
